Lilith Saintcrow Websites
Client: Orbit Books
Fantasy author Lilith Saintcrow was looking to refresh her website design in order to coincide with the release of her new series of books. Additionally, the website needed to be moved to a new server and upgraded from an ancient version of Wordpress to the most current.

The design was based on the covers for the Jill Kismet book series, and made use of a clean stylish layout. Since there’s so much content, we kept things simple and readable.
This was my first time working with Wordpress, and I completely fell in love with its ease-of-use, simplicity, and flexibility. Of course, the installation on Lilith’s old site was, in her own words, a “behemoth“. The database was gigantic, things were broken all over the place—all told, a bit of a nightmare. Eventually, I managed to get everything working properly by running through a complex series of automatic and manual backup and export steps I’d devised, and now it’s running like a dream. Of course, everything else I’ve done in Wordpress since has been insanely simple in comparison, which is rather nice.

Once her main blog was up and running, we created another Wordpress installation to house Selene, an online serial novel. (Read it! It’s fabulous and fun and free, and it actually made me blush a few times!) We made use of the same basic layout as the blog site, to maintain consistency, but changed the colour scheme and header graphic to fit with the Saint City series of novels. We also did some customization of the Wordpress install to make it behave less like a blog, and more like a novel, with a table of contents and the like.
